Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit were conducting an investigating with a man, identified as Carlos Vasquez, as the suspect, Springfield Police report.
While detectives were conducting surveillance on the 0-100 block of Standish Street, they saw Vasquez complete a suspected drug deal with another man, identified as Andres Rivera.
This happened around 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, police added.
Rivera then drove away and detectives conducted a traffic stop on Hyde Street. It was then that officers recovered cocaine from Rivera and placed him under arrest.
Detectives then searched Vasquez's apartment on Standish Street where they found a third man, identified as Omar Rios, and placed him under arrest for also having cocaine, police said.
Detectives also found a high-capacity firearm loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, another high-capacity magazine, about 583 grams of cocaine, and more than $27,000 in cash in the apartment.
Vasquez, of Springfield, was charged with the following:
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device (2 Counts)
- Trafficking in Cocaine, 200 Grams or More
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense
- Distribution of a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense
